Has anyone tried the litescribe on the new lacie burners?
Can't wait for LightScribe either... I'm only hoping Apple will add that feature to all computers in their next rev. Imagine burning a CD with iTunes and having album arts + tracks written on the label, or making a movie and then having a label made from the main menu/title image (or something). It would be perfect for laptops too (no need to carry extra hardware).

did I mention how Photoshop completely locks up if you copy text from an MS Office app? That was my Photoshop bug of the day...

Another vote for the M-Audio Oxygen series. I had a Oxygen 49 that was quite good... best part is you can pick them up used for less than $100 (in Canada!).
Look hard enough an I bet you could get one in the US for $60?

Colin Mcrae Rally (VERY hard but very rewarding and with great GFX)
RPG: Kingdom of Paradise (something like that)
Wipeout (get gold medals in every event) + free expansions
Metal Gear Acid (turn-based game) and Metal Gear Solid: Portable OPs
NES, SNES, Neo Geo, Turbo GFX 16, Genesis, and SMS collection (those should keep you busy for a while). The Metal Slug games alone should eat up at least a quarter of your trip.
if you like puzzle games, then get Mercury and Lumines. You can superset those to eat up most of the trip.
Don't listen to those recommending a DS. The ones worth playing are much too good to be wasted on a trip. :P

Single player mostly. I just find I'd rather be doing something else than playing video games when I'm with a group of friends. Unless it's something interactive like Guitar Hero, haven't tried a Wii yet but I'm sure I'd dig that.

I'm so surprised that no one is claiming that the white iPhone will be the next model released. Lots of rumors out there that the next version of the iPhone will not be a major release, but simply a specs upgrade. That seems to me the perfect time to "launch" the white iPhone.
I honestly don't see the big deal behind this. I prefer the black model anyways.

an identical list of reasons. cool. thanks for the reply.
i agree with the 'part of living'. it's the last page of the play after all. my sister was working with doctors without borders, was <35, and should not have gone yet. she left a 3 month old, a widow, and a pissed off brother with lots of old computers.
plus, i'm just trying to catch and pass Dreadnought...

Plug the external drive into your MacBook Pro, and open a finder window. The WD drive should show up in the left part of the finder window, under devices.
Right-click on the drive, and click on "Get Info".
In the Info window, part way down you'll see the format. For example:
Format: MS-DOS (FAT32)
or
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
or
something else for NTFS...
Remember, you can't reformat a drive (or a partition) without losing the files currently on that drive (partition). So, you MUST copy the files somewhere else, first.
I have checked and it is NTFS format. There is too much memory to copy onto my mac before reformatting. So then where else can i copy them too? For safety I can copy to another external hard drive which is NTFS, but will i then be able to move the data on to the newly formatted drive? Or just the stuff from my mac? Thanks so much for your help again

I had the 400 iMac DV SE, and I just put in a 500MHz w/ a better grphx card (was on the 500mhz mobo) and it runs like a charm. Just get the mobo off eBay and there ya go! ;)
so you brought the 500mzh motherboard and just stuck it in, and it worked fine cool

Yea now would be a good time to stop your flaming. Get a life. A girlfriend might help too. You have two weeks to use your iPad to attract women.
The class "Get a life" line. You telling me to get a life is like a homeless guy telling another homeless guy to "get a job". SteveKnobs, you're daft. Stop talking.

Agree with most comments here.. if your machine still lets you to be productive, no issues, generally still happy with it's performance, why upgrade?
I dunno about the HD problems tho', so if you can sell your current ones for a good price so you can buy the newer models, I guess that's a possible scenario..
Again it depends on your needs vs money you have..
IF you want to buy, the base 15 inch MBP 2011 model is the best for it's value (or so I've heard).. but those ultimate 13 inch MBA looks so sexy filled with SSD goodness.. oh my..
*writing this on my 2006 white macbook, so pardon the drooling.. :D

Has anybody powered an FW800 drive from an FW400 port?
Because the time I tried to power FW400 from FW800 it didn't work.

When I look at the depreciation of MBP, it is much worse than a MP. For example, 2008 models of MP have depreciated by about ~50%, while MBP have depreciated ~75% for similar price starting price point of the computers.

hmmmm.
would be nice to think that they might introduce a load of new stuff on that monday!
don't know what the actual truth is tho.. can't think of any real reason why they would need to 'close' a part of their website..

to get your VHS source onto your computer it would have to be digitized first. So either you digitized the video or someone did it for you. How this was done determines the base quality of your DIGITAL source. It can't be better than your source, but it can be converted to a more useful or less useful digital format (h.264 = more / mpeg2 = less for example).
it seems your asking how imovie handles video import for various versions. I don't use imovie, but i can tell your quoting some rather old versions (think it's up to 11 now). this should help with version history and what you can expect: http://tinyurl.com/6gk3p57
if the software got better over the year it may handle recording the source in a different way (e.g. filtering noise while recording, bettering line time base...).
I'm really scratching my head. You not recording, your importing a digital file or your capturing from a digital source such as DV tape.
Noise filtering would be a filter...that's a post process.
Have no idea what a "line time base" is.
There are plenty of products out there for cleaning up old / damaged / noisy video, but they are plugins for the most part (build-in or otherwise).

I have the Very Busy Man, although I've since found I prefer McBain's Lovechild (another Crumpler bag). The VBM is very large - the laptop pouch alone is likely big enough to hold a 17" Powerbook (I've got a 15" PB).
The problem I found with having a big bag is that I found myself carrying too much unnecessary junk around just because I could, which of course meant an unnecessarilly heavy load. I'm much happier with the McBains because it forces me to think about what I really need to bring along and what I can do without.
However if you actually need all that stuff, then the VBM is a great bag. Crumpler bags all seem to be very well constructed, very protective of your computer, and they look cool to boot.
In the US there are resellers such as ebags.com (http://www.ebags.com) and bagyou.com (http://www.bagyou.com) - they tend to be cheaper than Crumpler's USA prices. I've bought from both, and am a happy customer.
Edit: My good experiences with Crumpler computer bags convinced me to try out one of their camera bags when I was in the market for a new one. I must say I love my Budgie Smuggler - it's as well made and well thought out as their computer bags.
