I am planning to book tickets for my parents travelling from India to US and returning back to India after 2 months. I have some questions:
1) Is it necessary to book tickets in India?
2) If not, Can I book tickets through orbitz or expedia in the US and send them the e-tickets?
Please reply with your experiences.
Thanks in advance!

Did anyone get their GC Approvals from USCIS Local Offices which are pending after the interview is complete? If anyone is waiting for local office cases what is the process they are following and how is the approval process?
I am waiting for my approval of my EB2 India with PD Nov 2004. it is pending in San Jose Local office
I guess applications pending at local office are unlucky guys :-(

I had the same issue last year. Per their website
(https://www.vfs-usa.co.in/Home.aspx) September 2006 dates are current, November may not be current yet. You will have to keep checking. The rules were being changed for the visa appointment procedures last Nov/ December. If you have already paid the HDFC fee you should also have free 15 minute telephone time to ask such questions from their agent in India or you might want to call them directly at the phone number below.
I am unsure about a single vs two appointments for you and your husband. Please confirm. It would be safer to direct such questions at the Embassy than at this forum because of the constant changes in the rules.
Below are the helpline numbers when calling from outside India:
If you are calling from outside India, please call us at +91 44 4231 6767
Our agents respond to phone calls between 0800-1600 Monday through Friday excluding all-India holidays observed by the US missions.
E-mailed queries are responded to Monday through Friday, within two working days.

How about thread "lighten up"??? Although its not relevant to Immigration, it sure is a good thread that helps everyone to lower their blood pressure after reading visa bulletins and other Immigration hassles.
There are not many insignificant threads that encompasses Immig threads, moreover if you notice they show up when not much is happ on a particular day
my 2c
There are two pointless threads on this site, one is titled "The yanks are coming" and another as "US political system is broken". They both contain long rants of a single user. I seriously doubt if anybody ever reads them, as is evident from the absence of any other user's reply to these threads. Why don't we just remove them, or block them from showing up on the main page. At least it will free up space for more useful threads.

I have a feeling in my mind that i made some mistakes in the 485 application. I may be wrong also. My lawyer was so busy on June 29 and she asked me to fill out all the forms. I tried my best to make it as accurate as possible. My other concern is my lawyer applied for my I-140 on 6/17 and got the receipt date of 6/28 in the email. Now i am not sure whether my lawyer had included that e mail copy (Since we haven't got the receipt notice in the postal mail) with my 485 packet sent on the same day which had reached the USCIS on July 2.
Are they going to reject my application just in case if my lawyer had missed that I 140 receipt copy???????????? or are they going to accept the app and RFE. If anybody had faced the similar situation, please help me to deal with this.

I called them this morning and IO told me that my file has been assigned to an officer. What does this mean? Can anyone tell me?
Thanks
Why yes! Didn't you get the memo?
What this means is that somebody at USCIS probably ran out of TP at home.

But how will get your final step completed ... which is consular processing.
I was thinking you need your passlips (?) as proof of employment.
Sorry if I am pulling this to the top of discussion forums, this is an interesting question, given there will be many people stuck with retrogression and not being able to apply 485.

For me, my attorney's filed successor in interest I-140 after I filed I-485 due to merger. I faced no issues with this process and you can request them to file the same at your end. This did not affect my I-485.
Thanks
Do you know if your successor in interest i-140 has been approved

Guys,
this doubt is bugging me due to recession fears.
if someone is on h1 status & have filed 485 in july 07. what happens when due to recession he/she is out of job (NO PAYROLL) for 3-4 months.
will the person have problems during 485 approval?? whats the possible negative that can happen in such god not willing situation

If you paper filed your EAD and have done finger printing recently that could be the reason for 485 LUD. Its my opinion after every finger printing there will be an LUD in 485

07/07/2007: USCIS Reportedly Admitted Some I-485 Approvals at Last Minutes Without Completion of FBI Security Clearance
* New York Times, http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/06/us/06visa.html?hp, has reported:
"To complete the applications in time, the immigration agency put employees to work both days last weekend at service centers in Texas and Nebraska, immigration officials said. They said that 25,000 applications were processed in the final 48 hours before Mondays deadline. In some cases, security clearances required by the F.B.I. were not entirely completed, immigration officials said. The agency approved some applications when we were certain the process will be completed very shortly, Mr. Aytes said."
* The report also indicates that the State Department and the USCIS tend to disagree with each other for the root of the problem for the current fiasco. Earlier there was a report in the Washington Post that the USCIS denied that the USCIS worked ceaselessly and frantically during the weekends (two days) before July 1, but it has been admitted since then the employees indeed worked hard during the two days. According to the NY Times report, during the weekend alone, they approved 25,000 I-485 backlog applications.
* We are afraid that the alleged admission of approval of I-485 application before completion of the security clearance is likely to face the legal challenge for violation of the rules which is likely one of the main claims of the AILF lawsuit as well as the political backfire as an issue of security lapse relating to the homeland security. It appears that the July visa bullen fiasco is going out of control and pushes the two agencies into an edge.
